SOLD – On the Canopy : Low enregy consumption wood house in Uzès

An architect wood house with a vieuw in Uzès

Located in the village of Uzès, on 1100 m2 of sloping land is a , wooden house of 145 m2, and a swimming pool.

Martine, was willing to start a new house projetc. She desired to have an environnment respectfull and bioclimatic house. Her land offered wondefull views and what could be better then to live « on the canopy « ?

Martine, asked Benoit Gillet, an architect specialist in bioclimatic and wood constructions to design her dream housen with endless openings to enjoy the views in particular the olive trees.

Particular care has been taken to optimize the sensation of « inside and outside ».

The fondamental idea is inspired by the mediterranean house, protected from « the cold north wind (Mistral) and opened to the sun ont he south.

The heating is provided by a high-efficiency pellet stove … hot sanitary water is produced by a solar roof pannels.

The winter garden (35m2), covered, in winter by polycarbonate plates structure and in summer, with shade sails.

The « green » roof (sedum) reduces the visual impact on the landscape and contributes to the high bioclimatic performances.

Local shops are 5 mns drive away. This house is at 35mns from Uzès and Nîmes by car.

Our favourite is the privileged environment and a “magical” circular view overlooking the « the cevennes » !

SOLD – Loft in Camargue : Vinyard redesigned

Mas in the countryside with a loft and a traditional house  surrounding the Camargue nature near Arles

Henri immediately spotted on the evolutionary potential of the “Mas Camarguais”. Stéphanie was a bit difficult to convince, “what hard work to do” ! : The annex of the Mas, was a little abandoned. The high ceilings and rough roof, would provide an incredible playground for a young architect.

The Mas, is a true parallelepiped and has two antinomic parts : a space renovated in a traditional manner, and in its extension transformed in a contemporary loft with generous volumes, corresponding to the old annexes. The exterior architecture of the property has been perfectly preserved and renovated respecting traditional constructions.

The farmhouse looks like the Camargue nature, all in contrast. This restoration combines the architectural biases between tradition and modernity, with the use of innovative materials, such as corten for stairs, polished concrete for the floor, valchromat for the kitchen, as well as materials in the respect constructions of camarguais mas.

This mas, offers 340m2 of living space, is located in a village near Arles, on a plot of 1.6 hectares, surrounded by nature Camargue.

The entrance of the house overlooks the Loft of 130m2, bathed in light by metal canopies all width facing south. It is organized in different living spaces. It includes a lounge area, a fireplace in the DRC, a dining area, a kitchen located half a level above. An additional level above, a  largely bedroom, with its independent bathroom and a spacious other bedroom in continuity which can be used as a dressing room.

The other part of approximately 210m2, in the extension of the loft, is more traditional looking and is composed of a living room and its chimney, and an office in RDC and upstairs, 2 other rooms with each its bathroom.

Arles :10mn, Aix en Provence :50mn, Nîmes :35 mn, Saint Rémy de Provence :30mn and Marseille :1h00mn.

Our favorite for the volumes and brightness of the loft. This out-of-the ordinary place, in  Camargue, offers many perspectives of evolution and trasformations.

What about a wine bar? : Restored wine-grower’s cellar in village near Aigues-Mortes

‘Le Chai’  in a  medieval village :  a castle, a canal, vineyards, meadows, horses and bulls roaming on the marshlands, nature reserve and the sea nearby.  Not only history and nature but also culture: concerts, folklore, art both ancient and modern! Everything!!!

And… Why not a wine-cellar in the sitting-room as well!? … Done!

A glass roofed wine reserve/display under the living-room. From the outside this stone-built house with its little garden beside the canal gives nothing away of the audacious interior renovation. First, an inside living unit prolonged by the second, exterior, where the roof has been removed to provide a courtyard with swimming pool protected by the high outside walls.  80m2 for a truly inside\outside lifestyle.

The underground wine cellar is visible by transparency through the living area floor.  An open space concept :  kitchen, sitting room, dining-area, ‘vinotheque’ mezzanine and the outside courtyard all interconnected ; flooded with natural light the ground floor also offers an office and scullery.

A stone staircase to the mezzanine offers a view of the cathedral ceiling, wooden beams and the spectacular iron center light fixture.  A staircase/bookshelf gives access to the hidey hole/cabin/play place under the beams.  The night space is behind the mezzanine: two bedrooms and bathroom with a view over the canal.

A garage completes the whole, entrance from the street through a high iron gate.

A railway station in village connects to Nimes and the station at Le Grau du Roi. The beaches :  20 mins. Nimes/Montpellier:  30mins. Arles:  35 mins

Our favorite for :  the welcoming volumes for fun and friends and of course the ‘vinotheque’
