‘Le Chai’ in a medieval village : a castle, a canal, vineyards, meadows, horses and bulls roaming on the marshlands, nature reserve and the sea nearby. Not only history and nature but also culture: concerts, folklore, art both ancient and modern! Everything!!!
And… Why not a wine-cellar in the sitting-room as well!? … Done!
A glass roofed wine reserve/display under the living-room. From the outside this stone-built house with its little garden beside the canal gives nothing away of the audacious interior renovation. First, an inside living unit prolonged by the second, exterior, where the roof has been removed to provide a courtyard with swimming pool protected by the high outside walls. 80m2 for a truly inside\outside lifestyle.
The underground wine cellar is visible by transparency through the living area floor. An open space concept : kitchen, sitting room, dining-area, ‘vinotheque’ mezzanine and the outside courtyard all interconnected ; flooded with natural light the ground floor also offers an office and scullery.
A stone staircase to the mezzanine offers a view of the cathedral ceiling, wooden beams and the spectacular iron center light fixture. A staircase/bookshelf gives access to the hidey hole/cabin/play place under the beams. The night space is behind the mezzanine: two bedrooms and bathroom with a view over the canal.
A garage completes the whole, entrance from the street through a high iron gate.
A railway station in village connects to Nimes and the station at Le Grau du Roi. The beaches : 20 mins. Nimes/Montpellier: 30mins. Arles: 35 mins
Our favorite for : the welcoming volumes for fun and friends and of course the ‘vinotheque’
